Having written extensively on Mies, I was really looking forward to this book. It's a great disappointment. The "scholarship" is not nearly as good as what you'd find in an Erik Larson book nor is the writing. It's filled with misinformation that was de-bunked years ago. Quoting Terrence Riley on Mies's treatment of Lily Reich as being "a cad" is a bit like saying that the Jews were very mistreated during the Third Reich. My god, he refused to bring the woman over to the states despite her multiple appeals (because he had started a new life as "a husband" and as "an American" with a new mistress "Dr. Farnsworth". She died alone in Berlin in 1947 after protecting the heritage of his Berlin-based office, the latter of which he never wanted to see again anyway. Now THAT would have been a great HOOK for this book.
